Sonnenland® canvas
The Sonnenland convertible roof material differs from other convertible roof materials with its light fastness, its life span, its weather permanence and its form stability. Other materials may look deceptively similar and may also be easier to fit and produce and can thereby be offered more cheaply in the marketplace.
PVC windows
We source all of our PVC window materials from the original manufacturers – which means that we only use the best Quality materials for our hoods. This window material comprises a pressed, transparent sheet material with an extremely smooth surface made of plasticised PVC. Thanks to its composition, this material is highly resistant to environmental influences such as weathering, gasses, liquid and solid foreign matter.
Our tip: Selecting the right material
• If the material is too elastic, it might tear when fitted to a newer fully-automatic roof. There is also a risk that the material might start sagging at some point. Vice versa, very thick and stiff materials are not suitable for older hood frames because the material would be too bulky to fit into the hood compartment and rub against the sides.
PVC/vinyl hood materials
Some vintage and classic cars were originally fitted with PVC or vinyl hoods (e.g. VW Beetle, VW Golf and Mazda MX5). This material is also sometimes mistakenly referred to as synthetic leather. Vinyl is comprised of two layers. The top layer is made of a synthetic material and the bottom layer is usually made of cotton. Headliner material
Thanks to our large network of partners, we are able to source original headliners for most interiors. If the original material is no longer being manufactured and we no longer have any left in stock, we will use a material that matches the original material’s appearance and quality as closely as possible.
Reproductions & copied materials
There are also many different window variants available at significantly lower prices. However, the materials they are made of often do not meet the requirements for PVC window panels for road traffic use. These kinds of windows are more suitable for use in marine applications.
Although the use of Sonnenland canvas significantly contributes to the quality of our premium convertible hoods, other factors such as the machinery, industrial production processes, extensive experience and technical expertise of our team are even more important, because, even if it’s made of the best materials, a roof will still be of little use if it’s 3 cm too long or short and has twisted or leaking seams. As a partner of the automotive sector, you can rest assured that we only use original materials for all of our products!

Mercedes Benz fine velour carpet
This is a very densely woven, exclusive carpet with a backing designed to reduce noise. Thanks to their backing, our carpets can be fitted directly and without any additional work. Carpets without backing, such as the Porsche velour carpets, will mould to every uneven area and tend to slide much the same way a fabric would. This is why they have to be retrospectively reinforced if used as floor mats.
