What material is used for the Porsche Boxster 986 convertible top?
The Porsche Boxster convertible tops we offer are all made in Sonnenland A5 fabric.
We are convinced that this top material is of the highest quality standard. Porsche also uses this convertible-roof material in the original fittings.
In contrast to Sonnenland Classic, Sonnenland A5 material is purely synthetic.
The middle rubber layer of the three-layer Sonnenland fabric ensures that no moisture can seep into the convertible.
In addition to black, the convertible tops for the Porsche Boxster 986 are also available in blue, brown, indigo, graffiti gray, black-green and red.
How do the Porsche Boxster 986 convertible tops differ?
Porsche Boxster convertible roof with PVC rear window (model year 1996–2002)
The convertible roof of the early Porsche 986 models is equipped with a PVC rear window.
The PVC window is welded with two seams instead of one seam like the original convertible roof.
The side channel in which the tensioning cable runs above the side window in the convertible roof tends to tear out on the original convertible roof. Our convertible roof is specially reinforced here.
All installation-relevant markings are present to make the work easier.
The original Porsche convertible roof has a cardboard strip at the front for installation. This strip is glued into a recess in the rod.
We have sewn a plastic profile on the front edge to give the convertible roof more stability. Particularly at high speeds, this prevents the front of the convertible roof from coming loose.
Here you will find the Porsche Boxster convertible roof with PVC rear window.
Porsche Boxster—model years 1996–2002—convertible roof with glass window
The PVC window was a part of the original Porsche model until 2002. The glass window was only introduced in the later Boxsters.
We can also offer a solution for this.
There is a suitable glass window upgrade for the early Boxster model that also fits the old frame. The price for this convertible roof is slightly more because the production is more complex.
It should also be noted that the glass window is slightly smaller. This is due to the fact that the glass window cannot of course be collapsed and therefore has to be positioned under the kink of the convertible roof cover.

Porsche Boxster—model years 2003–2004—convertible roof with glass window
From 2003, the glass window was also introduced in the original Porsche Boxster convertible roof.
This convertible-roof cover only fits this body of the Porsche Boxster 986 and differs from the previously mentioned upgraded convertible roof.
Price is somewhat lower.
The shape of the rear window is based on the original Boxster's roof.

Side tensioning cables for Porsche 986
The side cables ensure that the cover is pulled to the frame.
This prevents rainwater or wind from getting inside the car.
If the cables are broken completely, or just individual strands, they should be replaced.
Here you can find the right tensioning cables for the Porsche Boxster 986.
Clamping rails for the Porsche Boxster 986
The side plastic rails or holders are mounted around the B-pillar.
Since the strips are very thin, they often break when the convertible roof cover is removed.
These are original parts from Porsche at an attractive price.
Here you can find the right clamping rails for the Porsche Boxster 986.
