Features of the Mazda MX-5 NB
The convertible roof of the MX-5 NB is manufactured in the high-quality and highly light-fast material Sonnenland A5. Compared to other roof materials, which are mainly used for classic cars, this fabric has better recovery properties and is less stretchy. Sonnenland A5 is extremely robust due to its thickness and rigidity and is inherently waterproof. The properties of this fabric guarantees high durability and additional waterproofing is not necessary.
However, if you want to pull out all the stops for your Mazda MX-5 roof, you can use a suitable waterproofing agent, as these provide an enhanced beading effect.
The NB convertible top can also be manufactured in Sonnenland Classic roof fabric for special color requests, however EUROTOP recommends that this Mazda convertible be manufactured in Sonnenland A5.
Mazda NB roof in different variants
The synthetic threads used in the manufacture are cotton covered, which means that they expand when damp and no water can seep inside through the seam hole. In the MX5 model, a sealing strip is also welded onto the inside, which means that the seams are also additionally sealed on the back.
We supply the fabric roof of the NB in the following colors:
- Black
- Blue
- Brown
- Dark green
- Graffiti gray
- Cream
- Indigo
- Pink
- Red
- Dark beige
- Light beige
- Grenadine
Other colors for your Mazda are also available on request.
In addition to the soft top, the Mazda MX5 is also available as a PVC roof. The material used is made with original grain and consists of two layers. A layer of plastic is applied to the bottom layer, which is usually made of cotton. Even though a plastic roof looks good, we always recommend getting a new roof made from fabric for the MX-5, as these have a better longevity.
Due to new legal requirements, PVC materials are nowadays produced with a different composition and do not match up to the previous standards in terms of quality. As we want to ensure that your Mazda MX5 NB roof retains its appearance and texture for as long as possible, we advise you to choose the fabric material variant.
We supply the Mazda roof of the NB in PVC in the following colors:
One-piece versions of the front roof piece for the MX-5 can also be found on the market, but these cannot be compared to the original.
EUROTOP produces the hood of the MX5 as it was originally conceived by the designers, even though this version involves more effort. We don't want to cut corners at the cost of quality of the MX-5's exterior.
The NB has a glass window
Unlike the first generation Mazda MX-5 NA roofs, the NB roof has a glass window as standard. This new rear window design was welcomed by many, but also meant that there was no longer a zipper around the rear windows for Mazda MX-5 models from 1998 onwards.
The cherished tradition of only having to zipper open the window for fresh air and not even having to fold down the convertible roof is now no longer applicable to the NB.
However, there are also plenty of Mazda MX-5 NA owners who prefer to use a glass window, so it can be seen that there are just as many lovers of the original MX-5 roofs with a PVC window as there are friends of the new Mazda MX5 NB roof with a glass window.
More comfort through the improvements of EUROTOP
All convertible roofs are usually designed to match the original. In some cases, however, there is a variation from the original if this results in an improvement of the roof.
On both the first generation, Mazda MX-5 NA, and the second generation (NB), the EUROTOP Mazda MX5 roof is complemented by rain strips above the side windows during production. It also does not matter whether it is a soft top or a plastic convertible top.
These fabric rain strips ensure that water cannot seep inside when the doors are opened. During production, however, the rain strips can also be left off, should this be desired. This element is not to be confused with the weather stripping, which is fitted in the rear area between the roof and the body. This design is included as standard and can also be purchased separately as required - it ensures that no water runs into the Mazda MX-5 NB's roof compartment.
Accessories for your Mazda MX5
In addition to the Mazda roofs in Sonnenland fabric and PVC, accessories such as tension cables and the rear rain strips can also be purchased separately. The tensioning cables pull the convertible roof sideways to the rod assembly, which reduces driving noise.
