Audi TT 8N convertible hood: The differences between the original convertible roof and the replica convertible roof
We offer two models of the Audi TT 8N convertible roof.
The main difference between these two models is the rear window of the convertible roof.
With the original Audi TT convertible roof, the glass window is glued to the fabric and the Audi logo is visible on the window.
The rear window of the Audi TT 8N replica convertible roof is fitted with a frame.
Rear window issue in convertible roof of the Audi TT
A weak point in the original Audi Roadster convertible roof is the glass rear window that comes off.
This problem occurs not only with the original Audi TT 8N convertible roof, but also with many other models.
The repair solutions that some companies offer are usually carried out without a guarantee.
We have tried different adhesives on the Audi TT Roadster over the years to glue the windshield back into the convertible roof reliably, but unfortunately without long-term success.
In the replica hood we offer for the Audi TT Roadster, the glass window is attached to a sturdy frame. This frame is not visible from the outside. It ensures that the rear window is reliably attached to the fabric or the convertible roof.
For those who value originality, we recommend the original "Audi TT Roadster convertible roof", which we also offer.
The window on the original is glued and the durability of the convertible roof is comparable to that of your current original convertible roof.
Ideally, the car should not be cleaned in car-washing lines so as to avoid excess stress for the bonding of the glass window on the Audi TT Roadster. The ingredients of the cleaning agent might hasten the detachment of the window in the TT Roadster.
Convertible-hood material for the Audi TT Roadster
Both versions of the Audi TT convertible hood are made of Sonnenland fabric—the original material.
The "Sonnenland A5" convertible-hood material has a three-layer structure and a rubber layer in the middle. This means that the convertible top of the 8N is 100% waterproof.
Waterproofing agents are not necessary for this convertible roof and are only recommended if the car often stays outside.
The TT 8N reproduced convertible top is available in black, green and blue. The original Audi TT roof is only available in black.
Upon request, we can also provide other colors for the 8N. You are welcome to contact us directly here.
Rain gutter in the Audi TT 8N
The built-in rain gutter on the Audi TT 8N Roadster ensures that rainwater drains away. Unfortunately, this often causes problems.
If this rain gutter near the convertible-roof compartment is blocked, the control unit of your convertible can get wet and malfunction.
When changing the roof, we recommend checking the rain gutter of the convertible and repairing it if necessary.
In our trim shop we offer this service for your Audi TT.
To avoid problems in the future, you should check the rain gutter of the convertible regularly. With the roadster roof open, you can simply clean the drains.
